Community Participation Indicators

Access to equitable Community Participation opportunities is a civil right for citizens with disabilities within the Americans with Disabilities Act. Full participation refers to issues of accessibility, inclusion and social capital in the community and in the broader society. The indicators in this section focus on community features and policies that support people with disabilities to go out and participate in the community. These include being able to go out and about in the community, including access to private, public and alternative transportation systems and information resources. This section also focuses on access to local community participation resources and buildings, such as libraries, police stations, grocery stores, restaurants, parks and schools. This section also focuses on "livability" of the community, including indicators such as access to health care and insurance, affordable and integrated housing, education, and other neighborhood features such as crime and poverty rates.
